Ssanggye Ujeon: The First Dew of Jirisan

Supreme Elegance: The Korean "Grand Cru" harvested at the first light of spring.

Discover the masterpiece of the renowned Ssanggye tea house: the Ujeon (雨前) Green Tea. The term "Ujeon" refers to an extremely rare harvest, hand-picked just before the first spring rains (Gogu) in mid-April. Only the youngest, most tender buds from the wild tea gardens of Mount Jirisan are selected for this blend. This is the highest grade of green tea in Korea—the pinnacle of the art—offering absolute softness and a profound depth of umami for the most discerning palates.

The Experience: A Spring Orchid in a Cup

Upon infusion, a limpid, emerald liquor reveals itself, releasing a delicate fragrance reminiscent of wild orchids. Because the leaves are harvested at such an early stage of growth, this tea is entirely devoid of bitterness or astringency. It glides over the palate with a silky texture and an exquisite, natural sweetness.

Sensory Profile: A very fresh vegetal aroma of early-morning dew and cut grass.

The "Umami" Heart: Rich in amino acids, it offers savory notes of fresh hazelnut and sweet cream.

The Finish: A long, purifying, and deeply soothing trail that lingers elegantly on the tongue.

The Ritual: A Moment of Meditation

This tea is presented in its purest form: Loose Leaf. To honor its delicate nature, the preparation itself becomes a mindful ceremony:

Temperature: Use water cooled to 60–70°C. Higher temperatures may scorch the tender buds.

Infusion: Steep in a small porcelain or clay teapot. Watch as the tiny, needle-like leaves unfurl to release their spring magic.

Multiple Steeps: High-grade Ujeon can be infused 3 to 4 times, with each steep revealing new layers of its complex aromatic profile.

Why Mount Jirisan?

Mount Jirisan is the cradle of Korean tea history. The high altitude, misty climate, and rocky, well-drained soil of the region produce tea leaves with a concentration of flavor and a "wild" character that cannot be replicated elsewhere. Ssanggye, led by Tea Master Kim Dong-gon, utilizes traditional roasting techniques to preserve this unique terroir.

The Maison Boseong Selection

At Maison Boseong, we consider the Ssanggye Ujeon our most prestigious offering. It is the "First Growth" of the tea world—a rare, seasonal treasure that represents the very soul of Korean hospitality and refinement.
